‘You are labelled as loose!’ Scarlett Johansson says it shouldn’t be ‘taboo’ for women to talk about enjoying romance

Morphing effortlessly from young ingenue to latex-clad super hero, Scarlett Johansson is a modern day hot symbol. Yet despite her obvious ease with her own, the July Cosmopolitan cover girl is unhappy with the way women who talk about hot are stigmatized. ‘When women talk about enjoying romance, it’s almost forbidden,’ said the 32-year-old in an interview with the magazine.

‘Just having a healthy attitude, you are labeled as loose, wild, a slut. You have no morals, and you’re seen as some kind of deviant or someone who can’t be in a monogamous relationship. ‘The minute you talk about enjoying yourself, being curious, that is still taboo.’ Scarlett has long used her celebrity status to publicize causes close to her – and she also spoke out about the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

‘There’s no reason we shouldn’t be talking about our reproductive rights,’ she told the magazine. ‘They’re something we have to fight for and continue to protect. There’s nothing icky about talking about that stuff. Of course, it’s private and it’s your body, but we should take the stigma away.’ As a long-time Democrat – her twin brother Hunter even worked on Present Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign – Scarlett also opened up about politics. Specifically she addressed the First Daughter Ivanka Trump, who is widely believed to be more left-leaning than her father.

‘I’m not asking her to come out and talk about something she doesn’t believe in…I know it’s complicated,’ she said, emphasizing for the businesswoman’s position. ‘It’s her father. Can you imagine? Maybe she’s afraid she’ll be abandoned. ‘It’s hard to put yourself in somebody’s position like that. But how do you move the needle in one direction or the other? Hopefully, she’ll make a courageous choice and stand up for what she believes in — whatever that might happen to be.’
